Take one part cooking instruction, stir in some physical fitness fun, sprinkle in education and then blend them all together to create “Cooking up Good Health” a cooking and nutrition camp for local youth. The camp will be held .July 25th -27th from 8:30 to 12 noon at the Victoria County 4-H Activity Center located at the airport.
The goal of the program is to provide participants with a fun atmosphere for creating delicious, healthy meals and snacks and also learn some fun fitness activities. Participants will receive “hands-on” instruction on how to properly measure ingredients, read food labels, learn about appropriate portion sizes and on the last day, participate in a “food challenge”.
There is no-charge to attend the camp, however, students will be asked to bring a non-perishable item to be donated to local food banks. The camp is open to youth 8-17 years of age. Parents may drop off between 8 a.m.-8:30 a.m. each day.
To register or inquire about the camp, please call the Texas Cooperative Extension Service at 361-575-4581. The program is sponsored by the Victoria City-County Health Department, Texas Cooperative Extension Service, Pecan Valley AHEC, and the Crossroads Health Coalition.
